The hospital is a leading medical center–level teaching facility in Taiwan with more than 4,000 healthcare professionals. With over 1,900 hospital beds and around 6,000 outpatient visits daily, the hospital remains committed to advancing the quality of medical care through continuous investment in cutting-edge technology and strategic departmental development. To enhance workflow efficiency in unit dose medication delivery and specimen collection for inpatient care, the hospital has undertaken an equipment upgrade initiative.
Obstacles in Achieving a Productive Healthcare Workflow
The hospital faced delays and inefficiencies in two key areas — unit dose medication delivery and specimen collection.
In medication delivery, nurses needed to log into the hospital system using a PC, smartphone, or mobile computer, then scan medication barcodes with a wired scanner at the nursing station dedicated to unit dose dispensing. When several nurses from different stations performed this process simultaneously, it led to congestion at the station and slowed the overall delivery workflow.
