Based in Japan, this chemical manufacturer specializes in providing microprocessing materials that are essential for semiconductor production. Their portfolio of chemical materials plays a critical role in advanced microchip fabrication within the semiconductor manufacturing sector, significantly enhancing precision and efficiency in electronics manufacturing processes.

A key semiconductor manufacturer client required all suppliers to ship materials with encoded QR codes and RFID tags to ensure information security, adhering to specific ISO encryption standards. Compliance necessitated including detailed information such as DUNS numbers, product names, lot numbers, content descriptions, and manufacturing and expiration dates on encoded QR codes and RFID tags.

Overcoming Inadequate Support Issues
To meet these stringent requirements, the manufacturer initially adopted a label printer and handheld RFID reader solution from a system integrator. However, they encountered persistent issues with inadequate and slow support both locally and globally, leading to significant operational disruptions. This compelled them to switch to more reliable and efficient solutions.

Adopting Advanced Printing and CipherLab RFID Scanning
To mitigate the risk of shipment returns, the manufacturer adopted advanced printers to print encoded RFID tags after entering the required information. They utilized CipherLab RS35 UHF RFID readers and a dedicated app to verify that tag information complies with regulations. Once confirmed, the tags were attached to plastic containers holding chemical materials before shipment to the client.

For metal containers, the manufacturer printed labels with encoded QR codes. Using the RS35 UHF RFID scanner, they could write data to anti-metal tags by scanning the QR code and writing the data directly to the tag with a single trigger press.

During integration and testing, it was identified that the manufacturer required the capability to read and write more extensive tag data. To address this need, CipherLab, in collaboration with their printing partner, promptly developed and released new UHF firmware within a week. This update enables the RS35 to handle large tag data efficiently.

Maximizing Compliance, Efficiency, and ROI
By implementing advanced printing and CipherLab UHF RFID scanning solutions, the manufacturer effectively addressed the strict requirements of their semiconductor manufacturer client. The new system delivered reliable and efficient encoded labeling and verification processes.

Additionally, the cost-effective and flexible UHF RFID scanning solution, which allows for separate use of the RS35 as a handheld terminal or a UHF RFID reader, greatly increased the manufacturer's overall return on investment.

CipherLab's rapid support and release of new UHF firmware enabled tags to be encoded with more extensive information. This transition not only ensured compliance with the client's security and information standards but also enhanced the overall precision and efficiency of the manufacturer's shipment process. These improvements reinforced their reputation as a reliable supplier in the semiconductor industry.
