Transitioning To An Android Operating System With CipherLab's RK95 Industrial Mobile Computer And Its Easy To Use Mass Deployment Solutions
Headquartered in Bangkok, this grocery and general merchandising retailer is one of the largest hypermarkets in Thailand, and has recently deployed CipherLab's RK95 in its warehouses and stores to manage inventory.

Prior to choosing CipherLab's RK95, their previous mobile device ran on a Windows operating system; however, the enterprise planned to change to an Android system. In order to switch to new handheld devices, though, some important requirements needed to be met: software compatibility, user interface, and data processing--just to name a few. The ideal situation would be that the old and new software had the same interface which could shorten the learning and transition period when changing to new devices. Also, considering the working environment, wireless connectivity was another key issue when choosing replacement devices. Taking all these demands and requirements into consideration, CipherLab worked with our partner to provide a complete solution that would include both hardware and software. The result was the RK95.

CipherLab's RK95 is a powerful handheld terminal that is purpose-built for demanding warehousing applications. It has a variety of superior features in one device. First, it supports Google GMS and is AER certified. Next, its 4GB x 64GB memory ensures memory intensive applications. Also, it offers versatile laser reader options from a 2D imager to an extended-range 2D imager which fulfill different user demands in reading distance. Moreover, it offers a cold storage model with a freezer 5,500 mAh battery and ice-resistant materials so that it can easily work in low temperature environments down to -30°C. Finally, the ergonomic pistol grip design guarantees all-day comfortability, without wrist fatigue for users. In other words, it is a device that covers all an enterprise may need.

The RK95 also ranks first in field testing, and the software we developed with our partner easily passed all the technical tests it faced. It performed extremely well on wireless connectivity and its reading performance proved to be top-notch.

Aside from that, the MDM solution that CipherLab provides also solves its mass deployment problems. EnDeCloud, CipherLab's deployment tool, provides mobile computer administrators with different options to manage configurations efficiently and according to their needs, in fact there are two Windows-based tools in EnDeCloud: the CipherLab Android Deployment Configurator (ADC), and the Wireless Mobile Deployment System (WMDS). ADC integrates all configurations into one single platform, and WMDS, a windows-based server program, helps configuration settings created by ADC to be deployed on CipherLab's Android-based devices through a wireless network, which would be a perfect solution for enterprises that have data security concerns.

All told, the device transition in the merchant's warehouse and stores has gone quite well, and they are thoroughly satisfied with the product quality and the technical support that CipherLab offers. And as expected, more deployments of the RK95 are in the works.
